Frue Plads and St. Kannikestræde

LYTT Architecture has renewed Frue Plads and Store Kannikestræde in Copenhagen with a holistic restoration, which includes the restoration of the entire square as well as draining.

Frue Plads is located between the pedestrian streets Nørregade and Fiolstræde, between the University of Copenhagen and Frue Kirke. The site is often used by tourist buses in connection with loading and unloading, but also for markets and other events take place here. The holistic renovation includes renovation of the square as well as parts of drainage. Furthermore, the design and geometry has been carefully adjusted and new trees have been planted on the square.

The historical natural stone pavement can be traced back to the 1850s and consists partly of slate tile paving, partly of a cobbled part used by the tourist buses. It was a requirement that the restoration took place with respect for the historical nature stone pavement. Thus, we had great focus on reutilisation and incorporation of new materials in the project.
Store Kannikestræde is a pedestrian street between Fiolstræde and Købmagergade in the historical centre of Copenhagen. The road is surrounded by dense buildings with housing, businesses, few shops and two restaurants with outdoor serving.
