Peder Breth's Park

The vision for Peder Breth's Park, a residential river valley landscape in Børkop, Vejle Municipality, was to transform the existing green corridor into a combined urban and climate park that connects the town and serves as its recreational green backbone and central gathering place.

LYTT Architecture has provided landscape architecture and consulting services for the development of this new recreational climate park in Børkop. The project is founded on two key objectives: climate adaptation and urban regeneration. These ambitions are brought together in a single integrated design that combines rainwater management, biodiversity, recreation, and community life, with water as a defining feature throughout the park.
Earlier, the project area faced several challenges:
  • The stream is a central landscape element, yet it was largely hidden by dense riparian vegetation, making it difficult to see, access, and experience.
  • Gaps in the existing path network created a disconnect between the northern and southern parts of the park, limiting movement and preventing circular routes.
  • Recreational facilities were concentrated primarily in the northern section of the park and focused on a playground for younger children.
The project addresses these challenges through three strategic interventions:

Making Water Visible
Water is transformed into a defining identity for the entire park. Selective thinning of vegetation along the stream improves visibility and accessibility, while larger interconnected stormwater basins create attractive blue-green landscapes that manage rainwater and enhance biodiversity.

Strengthening Connectivity
The existing path system is expanded with new routes that connect the northern and southern sections of the park. The new network enables continuous circulation, promotes accessibility, and creates opportunities for walking loops and waterfront promenades.

Creating Activities for Everyone
New destinations are established throughout the park through a series of “Water Stations” located along the stream and adjacent to the stormwater basins. These provide a wide range of recreational opportunities for all ages, including observation decks, fitness areas, barbecue facilities, informal gathering spaces, and new playgrounds.
