Munkebo City Park

The city park is divided into three distinct zones, each catering to the surrounding institutions and the town’s residents across different age groups. One area is dedicated to sports, one to outdoor recreation, and one to play and social interaction. Together, the three areas appeal to a wide range of users and are connected by a 1.5-kilometre loop trail, ideal for running, cycling, and roller skating.

The play and social recreation area is particularly popular among the town’s children and the nearby daycare centre. Here, facilities include a climbing structure, a Tarzan course, and a balance-play installation that challenges children’s motor skills, imagination, and ability to cooperate. The city park also features a campfire area, shelters, and a boardwalk, allowing children to explore the park’s natural environment.

Torben Frølich, Director of Lokale og Anlægsfonden, described the project as follows:

“Munkebo City Park is a successful example of how an underused and somewhat uninspiring site can be transformed into a city park with sports activities, play opportunities, and nature experiences, thereby helping to give a small provincial town new life and a new identity through shared community spaces.”
