Løgstør Harbour Renewal

Løgstør Harbour is to be climate-adapted to ensure that its quays and buildings are protected against future flooding. We have prepared an urban space analysis focused on strengthening the connection between the town and the harbour, while integrating the necessary climate adaptation measures into an attractive and recreational waterfront experience for residents and visitors alike.

Løgstør is facing a further phase of harbour climate adaptation, including proposals for a new breakwater that can reduce wave impact. Although the harbour is currently protected to an elevation of 1.90 metres above water level, waves still overtop the existing defences, flooding the quay and causing damage to buildings. For this reason, the potential for a new breakwater is being explored. Such a structure would reduce wave action and create a calm, deep-water basin on its protected side. At the same time, it would establish entirely new and favourable conditions for expanding and enhancing the intimate harbour environment that characterises Løgstør.

The vision is to reinforce and highlight the harbour’s existing qualities and public spaces rather than reinvent them. To create a coherent and engaging waterfront experience, we have designed a series of interventions along the harbour promenade at different scales, ranging from small seating areas and identity-defining urban furniture to larger public squares where activities and social life can be concentrated. By renovating and strengthening existing spaces, improving access to the water, and introducing new functions and amenities, the project creates attractive new public spaces.
