Brædstrup Station Square

The project comprises the creation of a new station square and the reestablishment of the former railway trail in the historic railway town of Brædstrup. Together, these initiatives strengthen the connections between the town centre’s commercial and cultural life, the surrounding natural areas, and the station.

The project has been developed based on the vision established through the area renewal programme for Brædstrup. This vision describes Brædstrup as a town full of life and community, where history and nature remain present and meaningful elements of everyday life.

The new Station Square is envisioned as the town’s primary meeting place and is designed as a cohesive and well-defined urban space that celebrates and supports the area’s important cultural heritage. The square combines brick-paved surfaces with gently undulating green lawns that can accommodate a wide range of activities, from informal recreation and relaxation to play.

LYTT’s vision is for the square to provide a setting for gatherings, events, and community life. In everyday use, the square will appear attractive and inviting, offering a pleasant place to spend time and a civic space that residents can take pride in. It combines traditional paved areas with generous green spaces, creating a balanced and versatile public space.

The restoration of the railway trail through Brædstrup will ensure that cyclists and hikers can move easily and comfortably through the town. At the same time, the trail will function as an important green and active corridor that connects different parts of Brædstrup and strengthens the town’s overall cohesion.

During the development of the concept proposal, a workshop involving residents and the local council provided valuable input and ideas for the project. The workshop, together with ongoing dialogue with the local council and the municipality’s working group, resulted in a shared prioritization of the initiatives related to both the square and the railway trail. As a result, the project has been prioritized to develop from the square outwards.

The railway trail will gain a stronger and more visible identity throughout the town, while the Station Square will be reinforced as Brædstrup’s central gathering place, welcoming both residents and visitors alike.
