Aarhus Tech - City Campus
The project includes the expansion and development of outdoor spaces at Aarhus Tech, including the forecourt, arrival areas, courtyards, planting, paving, terrain, parking facilities, and outdoor furnishings.
Aarhus Tech is located between the main access road Silkeborgvej, Dollerupvej, and Daugbjergvej. Together with the VIA University College development on the Ceres site, student housing, and other nearby projects, it contributes to the creation of an attractive new district in Aarhus. The area is characterized by its historic listed industrial buildings, which leave a strong architectural legacy, while the recreational landscapes along the Aarhus River add another layer of identity. Together with Godsbanen as a cultural hub, these elements create a distinctive character for the neighbourhood.
The design concept is inspired by the atmosphere of an urban backyard: a raw and flexible space with freedom of movement, openness, and room for a variety of uses. A continuous asphalt surface connects the buildings and establishes a cohesive identity for the city campus.
Green fissures cut through the asphalt, forming narrow linear openings across the surface or expanding into larger grassy areas. These fissures introduce their own poetic design language, challenging the strict geometry of logistics and infrastructure. Along these green lines emerge grasses, trees, and, in several places, gently sculpted terrain, resembling untamed nature breaking through the paved surface.
The asphalt carpet and green fissures are recurring elements throughout the campus, creating a strong and recognizable identity for Aarhus Tech. At the same time, they generate a rich variety of spaces, ranging from small niches and intimate gathering spots to larger, more urban public areas.
