Vesthimmerland Go Green
Vesthimmerland Go Green is a new energy landscape that combines renewable energy production with large-scale ecological enhancement. In addition to 21 wind turbines, 630 hectares of solar panels, and a 48-hectare industrial cluster, the project establishes 70 hectares of new nature.
The development is situated within the gently rolling river valley surrounding Trend Å, between Farsø, Havbro, and Vester Hornum. The project responds carefully to the landscape’s character, ecological conditions, and local interests. Shelterbelts are introduced to screen views towards the solar installations, which are subdivided into smaller units to align with the scale and structure of the landscape.
Working with the landscape’s inherent qualities, the vision is to strengthen biodiversity and enhance ecological resilience. Agricultural land is taken out of production to restore natural hydrology, increase species diversity, expand wetland areas, and connect them to new green corridors that encircle the solar fields.
In collaboration with local associations and residents, areas of particular local value have been identified and reinforced. These areas are enhanced through new recreational connections and ecological improvements, contributing to a coherent and strengthened river valley landscape along Trend Å.
Public engagement has been a central and valuable part of the process, recognising that local residents possess in-depth knowledge of the landscape. Following this dialogue, the project includes improved conditions for recreational fishing, opportunities for nature-based overnight stays, and the establishment of new running routes and walking trails along the river.
