Copenhagen South

The hustle and bustle of the metro’s underground will give way to calm and diverse public spaces, where urban life meets greenery and industrial heritage is reinterpreted. All as part of a major new urban development project in Valby.

A New Transit Hub in Copenhagen

The capital is gaining a major new transportation hub: Copenhagen South Station (København Syd), which will offer access to the Metro, three S-train lines, regional and intercity trains, and eventually international connections. The station is expected to serve more than 30,000 passengers daily, making it one of the busiest in Denmark.

Copenhagen South: Linking Infrastructure, History, and Scale

Copenhagen South is not just an iconic station building, a public space optimized for movement, or a conventional urban development. It is a true hub: a hybrid of green mobility, diverse urban experiences, and public spaces that connect vertically and horizontally to the surrounding city. Whether you’re a resident, visitor, or traveler, you’ll encounter a unique place shaped by contrasts: where the urban meets the green, where large-scale structures coexist with informal, self-built environments, where the fast pace of metro life gives way to calm, varied urban spaces, and where industrial heritage is reimagined as sustainable new architecture.

From Bike Route to Cycling Experience

The bike path becomes a unique experience at this future green station, safely interwoven with buildings, train connections, and public spaces along a planted corridor. Cyclists will find not only efficient bicycle parking, but also water features, public art, and vibrant, active spaces for all. The path runs through the open ground floor of the station building, reinforcing Copenhagen’s identity as a city for cyclists of all kinds.

Urban Spaces and Urban life

A well-designed network for pedestrians and cyclists, in harmony with the surrounding buildings, will create clearly defined plazas and public spaces that serve residents, commuters, neighbors, and the broader community. In these squares, oases, and open spaces, the hectic pace of city life gives way to a sense of calm and clarity. These public spaces, both large and small in scale, promote safety, accessibility, and a strong sense of place.
