Masterplan – New Residential Area South of Ringe
For a new residential area south of Ringe, we have developed a masterplan centered on proximity to nature.
The plan for Ringe South creates opportunities to live close to nature—on nature’s own terms. Sallinge Stream forms a natural boundary to the north, separating the new development from the existing town of Ringe. The vision outlines a city closely connected to the surrounding landscape, providing the overarching framework for the more detailed planning elements presented in the masterplan.
Boltinggårdvej as the Backbone
Today, Boltinggårdvej serves as the primary connection across the area’s physical barriers. In the future, the road will continue to function as the backbone of urban development, with dispersed landscape-based housing clusters organized along it. Residents will access their local neighborhoods from this central route. It is therefore essential that the road be given a cohesive design and identity, including clear principles for how buildings are arranged along it.
The City Around the Stream
The experience of the city is largely shaped by the roads we move along. Extending Svendborgvej with sidewalks, bicycle lanes, street lighting, and adjacent development will strengthen the perception of a continuous urban area on both sides of Sallinge Stream. At the same time, new developments on higher ground to the south, currently open countryside, will become visible, offering views back over Ringe. The future city will thus be connected in two ways: physically, through a central street running along the stream valley, and visually, through the landscape’s form stretching across it.
The Village Within the City
The village of Kellerup lies at the center of the planning area and plays a significant role in defining its character. Key features of the village include narrow, winding roads, a high degree of variation in building size and placement, and the characteristically steep roof pitches found on all buildings. These qualities are typical of well-preserved Danish village environments and form part of Denmark’s cultural heritage.
The vision for future urban development south of Sallinge Stream is to extend Kellerup’s existing qualities along Boltinggårdvej in a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional village. Familiar elements such as elongated farm structures, steep roof forms, and material compositions provide the architectural foundation for new developments. In this way, the urban expansion can be seen as a fusion of the railway town of Ringe and the village of Kellerup—combining the best attributes of both: Ringe contributes strong connectivity and infrastructure, while Kellerup contributes scale, form, variation, and closeness to nature, resulting in a distinctive and cohesive urban environment.
