Strategic Physical Development Plan for Møn
The strategic physical development plan for Møn focuses on promoting sustainable tourism by improving mobility and providing easier access to the island’s nature and cultural attractions. The plan seeks to distribute visitors across a wider geographical area to protect the most heavily visited destinations while creating a richer and more diverse visitor experience.
LYTT has developed a strategic physical development plan for Møn aimed at strengthening the island’s position as an attractive tourist destination through sustainable mobility and visitor experiences. The plan combines climate-friendly transportation solutions with Møn’s exceptional natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and local attractions, ensuring that visitors enjoy a rich and varied experience from arrival to departure.
A key objective is to improve accessibility and distribute visitor flows more evenly across the island, thereby reducing pressure on highly frequented attractions such as Møns Klint. By strengthening infrastructure around lesser-known destinations such as Nyord and Stege, the project aims to provide tourists with more opportunities to explore Møn’s unique landscapes and cultural history. This approach supports more sustainable tourism while also encouraging local development.
The mobility wheel, an integral part of the plan, functions as a framework for how green modes of transport can support tourism. This includes expanded opportunities for cycling and walking, improved public transportation options, and reduced reliance on private cars, making it easy and enjoyable for visitors to experience the beauty of Møn without placing unnecessary strain on the environment.
The project also takes future tourism trends into account, including the possibility of Møns Klint being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The development plan was made possible through financial support from Realdania, Dansk Kyst- og Naturturisme, and Vordingborg Municipality.
