Strategic Physical Development Plan for Destination Sydfalster

We have prepared a strategic physical development plan for Sydfalster with a focus on a holistic and sustainable approach to tourism and destination development. The objective is to attract more visitors to the area, particularly outside the high season, and thereby strengthening the local economy and creating a more stable foundation for businesses and attractions.

The ambition is to build upon the tourism already established in South Falster while actively working to extend the season and attract visitors throughout the year. Today, the summer months are busy with tourists, especially in the holiday destination of Marielyst, but maintaining visitor interest outside the peak season remains a challenge. The plan therefore seeks to create the framework for a longer tourism season by improving and developing the overall tourism offered and raising service standards.

Nature is at the heart of Sydfalster and forms the foundation of both local life and tourism in the area. The coastline, forests, and rich wildlife create a unique atmosphere that attracts visitors, and this distinctive natural environment represents a key resource for the future development of tourism. Based on a thorough analysis and mapping of South Falster’s qualities, the plan aims to strengthen these natural assets so they can support a sustainable tourism industry that thrives not only during the summer months but also appeals to visitors during quieter periods of the year.

With a strategic focus on season extension and improving the visitor experience, the project seeks to secure Sydfalster’s position as an attractive year-round destination, where both residents and tourists can enjoy the beauty of nature and the many opportunities the area has to offer.
